Driving examiners strike

The PCS union has just voted to go out on strike. This will effect several sectors of the civil service from border force officials to driving examiners. This is the latest action over their pay. We have to agree that if driving examiners are paid a good wage then we would see more examiners as the vacancies would be filled. They would also not need to take part in this industrial action. This would decrease the waiting list for driving tests, which has got incredibly long, at over 500,000 people waiting to take the test last May. This will obviously be getting longer as they are on strike.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has been trying to decrease the waiting time for car driving tests by recruiting more examiners and allowing more overtime as well as tempting retired examiners back to a temporary role. This is a good idea, but if people don’t feel they’re being paid enough then the vacancies will be a lot harder to fill, and people are less likely to agree to overtime.
